Yes sam, This is paid if VMware workstation but free if its VMware server (Sound strange :))

I noticed that the memory setting for the virtual machine is 256mb. Is that enough, or did you have to raise it for Oracle Apps?

Yes Brian, I changed VM memory settings from 256 to 768 during installation but U can try with 256 initially (DB start might create problem bcoz of low memory)

1st i installed windows then i installed linux
then i installed VM ware workstation 6 and i allocated 180 gb for VM ..but its not running..
i am getting error message

Did you make system dual boot ? (first windows and then linux)
You don't have to do that.

First install vMWare server on your windows O.S. in that VMware install linux (which is going to be a virtual machine).

This error message which you are getting is coming on starting VMware or linux virtual machine inside VMware

instance on Linux Unbreakable using vmware on my XP laptop to make a portable training environment but i have 2 question
1) does 2GB RAM and 1.7GHZ Processor acceptable
2) should i configure a single VM disk of 120GB instead of configuring 6 disks of 20GB and use
LVM
i allocate my files on a 160GB usb

Fresh Database (No Vision) took 11 hours with 256 MB RAM where as with vision instance I stopped after around 14 hours as by that time it finished just 85% and I/O wait increased to 82-89% during appl_top unzip files in final phase.
However I managed to install Vision with 756 MB ram allocated to this virtaul machine.

as I was planning to assign 1.5GB RAM for the VM machine but last thing i want to here your comment about is
to assign a single disk with the hole 120GB or 6 with 20GB disks and implement a LVM with Linux

I have installed VMware workstation6 and linux as per your instructions but i am not able to connect to internet from linux! please help me out.

Make sure your default gateway and subnetmask matches with one supplied by ISP try putting same IP Subnet mask and gateway (on network card of virtuallinux machine) of computer where internet is working

I have a laptop with window xp professional and T7200 @2.00GHz and 2GB of RAM. Is it possible to install oracle apps on this configuration machine after Installing vmware linux for Oracle Apps R12 Preparation. How much additional space does installing of Oracle AppsR12 will take.
Also this site give very good information with step by step instruction for installing VMWare linux for Oracle Apps. Is there a similar information for installing Oracle Apps R12

Thanks for this post. I have a question. I have installed linux on my vmware server and then one windows 2003 server on other virtual machine.
so I have two virtual machines. How can i work on oracle 10g installed on linux from windows 2003 (virtual machine). I can ping one machine from another, but dont know how to connect them.

Change network card on two virtual machine such that both have same subnet mask but different IP and then you can ping two machine. Check networking doc of each o.s. on how to do so

using VMWARE I did all the steps mentioned in the site.
I am getting err like "Kernal panic - not syncing:VFS:unable to mount root FS on unknown block(104,3)"

thanks for the document, i was able to install linux on vmware but its not detecting external harddrive and pendrives, i have checked with settings it says 'allow all removable devices' when i tried to add a usb device in vmachine settings -->add usb .it says "USB is not supported on ESX Server virtual machines

Atul you are doing awesome job. I don't know if it is easily possible, but I am a developer (not a dba) and want to have my own oracle apps instance. Would you have an 11i instance for vmware server that I could load easily? Please email me if that is possible.
